Sen. Rand Paul assaulted at his Kentucky home

Kentucky police arrested and charged a 59-year-old man for assaulting Sen. Rand Paul at his Bowling Green home. State troopers responded to the Republican politician’s home just before 3:30 p.m. on Friday and charged Rene Boucher with fourth-degree assault, according to a police statement obtained by the Bowling Green Daily News. Paul, who has served as Kentucky’s junior senator since 2011, suffered minor injuries in the incident. “Senator Paul was blindsided and the victim of an assault,” said Paul’s Kentucky Communications Director Kelsey Cooper. “The assailant was arrested and it is now a matter for the police. Senator Paul is fine.” A fourth-degree assault is a misdemeanor punishable with up to 12 months in jail. Warren County Attorney Amy Milliken said additional charges could be brought against Boucher depending on the extent of Rand’s injuries. Boucher is currently being held at the Warren County Jail on $5,000 bond.
