Sacramento police officer arrested on drug-related charges

A 16-year veteran of the Sacramento Police Department who was arrested on several drug-related charges was released on bail Saturday, officials said. Advertisement Officer Isaac Knutila, 45, was arrested Friday night, officials said. Police received a tip that Knutila was involved in illegal activity in early October. Officers found narcotics and a department-issued handgun in Knutila’s possession during a search on Friday night, according to a news release. He was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of amphetamines, possession of a controlled substance and possession of over an ounce of marijuana. Knutila has been placed on administrative leave. Sacramento police said there is no evidence that any criminal activity happened while Knutila was on duty. "It is unacceptable that a member of law enforcement would violate the public’s trust. We hold our officers to the highest standard and I assure you that these actions don’t reflect upon the hardworking men and women of the Sacramento Police Department," said Deputy Chief Brian Louie.
